Live Online Language Course “Job-related Language German A2 in the field of Economics and Engineering”
The
Language Center of the Leuphana-University of Luneburg was participating in the
BAMF-funded project Integral2, which provided online-based language courses for
refugees. Differently from other providers the online courses were held as a
live session through the web conference solution Adobe Connect. The pilot
course German Special Language for Economy and Engineering in 2017 was
intro-ducing differing discourse structures, which can train the language
learner to succeed in their studied discipline or their job. The course was
taking advantage of the heterogeneity of the learning group in referring
different competences to each participant. The technical solution with Adobe
Connect allowed working with a virtual desktop accessible to all learners and
let the teacher rotate and mix the learning groups. The following report
introduces the basic concept of the course structure and describes critically
the tried task forms of the online live lessons.
